Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Special Facilities Manager and Head Swim Team Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with the program's mission and management while ensuring the welfare and safety of the swimmers. The Assistant Coach serves as a role model and helps develop competitive swimming skills to children of various ages and skill levels. Duties include but are not limited to: motivating and coaching many different members of the Gator Swim Team at various swim levels and ages by generating appropriate swim sets and activities according to the age and skill level, assisting in organizing and preparing the lineup for swim team meets, participating in all swim meets and coaching additional practices including Junior Gator and Gator stroke clinics. Additionally, responsible for assisting with behavior management, enforcing policies and procedures, and maintaining the cleanliness of the locker room and pool deck. This is an at-will position.
Season Dates: May 24 - August 1, 2025
Orientation Dates: Starting in Mid-May with details to follow.
Hours: Practices are 7am-12:30pm, with additional hours on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for meets.

Physical Requirements
- Physically able to demonstrate various swimming strokes and move/float in the water for extended periods of time.
- Must have adequate sight and hearing to properly observe and hear signs of distress and complete recordkeeping.
- Strong voice, phone, and listening skill with the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (i.e. machinery or other alarms, equipment malfunction, phone or other communication device, etc.)
- Capacity to maintain focus/attention with moderate exposure to noise from patrons, staff or equipment operation in adjacent areas.
- Capacity to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, move, or carry 50 pounds or more while performing training or actual rescue, moving equipment, and/or supplies.
- Moderate exposure to chemicals such as chlorine, cleaning solvents, grease, fumes, airborne particles, etc.
- Ability to spend the majority of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions, including high heat and humidity.
- The ideal candidate will be service oriented, dependable and reliable with a strong sense of safety and responsibility.
- Ability to demonstrate and teach all four strokes (including starts and turns) proficiently and effectively.
- Previous experience interacting with children is preferred.
- Must be age 15 or older with at least five years of year-round competitive club swim team experience.
- Confident in ability to swim and comfortable in the water for long periods of time.
- Ability to maintain focus for periods of time with attention to detail is essential.
- Strong and effective communication skills with the ability and desire to provide quality customer service is essential.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Available to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficient in MS Outlook or other email system for communication, with aptitude to learn and use other systems/applications.
- First Aid and CPR/AED certification required or able to obtain within 30 days of hire. (GEPD will provide)
