Park Maintenance Staff
Season: April through September (or shorter - up to 1,000 hours per season)

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Park & Facility Operations, Parks Foreman, and/or Crew Leader, the Seasonal Park Maintenance Staff will perform a variety of maintenance and landscaping tasks to provide safe and attractive parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields throughout the Park District. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining the grounds at our many parks and facilities; i.e. mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, watering, trash picking/collection, etc.; athletic field prep and set-up; special event set-up/take-down; minor repairs to park elements, playground equipment, etc. and other duties as assigned. This is an at-will position.
Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00am – 3:30 pm, occasional weekend and special events required. Approximately 40 hours per week with some overtime possible.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative to achieve safe, clean, and well-maintained parks and facilities.
- Previous landscaping and/or maintenance experience is preferred.
- Candidates must be 18 or older with a valid IL Driver’s License, reliable transportation to and from work. Familiarity with the Glen Ellyn area is a plus!
- General knowledge and use of hand and power tools as well as gasoline and electric powered equipment is preferred.
- Must be in good physical condition to perform manual labor in various weather conditions including high heat/humidity and cold.
- Excellent eyesight including close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus for extended periods of time.
- Strong voice, phone, and listening skill with the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (i.e. machinery or other alarms, equipment malfunction, phone or other communication device, etc.) Moderate exposure to noise from patrons, staff or equipment operation in adjacent areas.
- Strong sense of safety with effective communication skills and a desire to provide quality customer service are essential.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member on a crew.
- Candidates will need to pass background check following an offer of employment.
