Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Early Childhood Assistant Director, the Preschool Sports Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading athletic programs. This role requires maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting with participants and their families.
This is a part-time, hourly position scheduled Monday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The daily schedule includes one hour of sports learning curriculum, one hour assisting with interactive play, and one hour designated for preparation and clean-up.
Compensation will be determined based on experience, performance evaluation, and the recommendation of the Early Childhood Director.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Experience coaching youth sports is preferred.
- General knowledge developmentally appropriate practices for children is required.
- Must use developmentally appropriate discipline methods.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Ability to develop, foster, and contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace environment.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within six (6) months of hire.
- All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.
Required Knowledge:
- A strong understanding and working knowledge of early childhood practices is required.
- Experience teaching or coaching sports or athletics is also essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Ability to read, write, and organize instructional materials.
- Capability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities for various classes.
- Must consistently demonstrate patience and a positive attitude when working with children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain good personal hygiene and a professional appearance at all times.
- Implement Preschool Sports lesson plans with the provided curriculum.
- Supervise all classroom and outdoor activities to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
- Communicate at the child’s level by speaking at eye level, sitting on the floor during group activities, and actively participating in free play and large motor activities.
- Accurately complete incident and accident reports as needed.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to support growth in early childhood education.
- Communicate daily with families using the BrightWheel app, including updates on lesson plans, program goals, and individual participant progress.
- Maintain punctuality and notify the Children’s Circle Assistant Director promptly in case of illness or absence.
- Maintain an inventory of classroom equipment and supplies and report any needs or concerns to the Program Supervisor.
- Guide and assist children with clean-up and classroom organization routines.
- Engage with children in a warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate manner throughout the day.
- Take responsibility for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment, including equipment and shared facilities.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of both the department and of the Glencoe Park District.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Hours:
This is an hourly part-time position scheduled Monday through Friday (12:30 PM—3:30 PM). Due to the nature of park district programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours may be expected. Enrichment teachers will predominantly work in the afternoons.
Pay Scale:
This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $22 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $20 per hour to $40 per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Children's Circle Assistant Director or the Children's Circle Director.
