Position Summary:
The patient financial navigator assists patients and/or families with access to a variety of financial resources by evaluating the financial situation of patients in accordance with regulatory compliance while maintaining patient confidentiality and dignity. This role will identify and evaluate how to optimize the patient’s health insurance benefits, help determine eligibility for financial assistance and/or payer assistance source and provides necessary support to enroll in available government programs.
The Navigator will screen newly diagnosed patients to identify those who may be appropriate for financial navigation services, meeting with patients to discuss insurance status, benefits coverage as it relates to their expected treatment plan, and the estimated costs of that planned treatment. It will help evaluate patient’s qualifications for financial and copay assistance programs as well as coordinates the completion of materials related to patient financial assistance programs, serving as a liaison between the patient, the medical team and assistance program(s).
Education and Experience:
- Medical terminology, medical office or insurance billing experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, internet-based programs, and ability to operate a variety of office equipment is required. Strong working knowledge of Epic EMR preferred.
- Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills. Interacts with others using tact and professionalism. Uses proper phone etiquette.
- Maintains confidence and discretion while managing sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborator, while maintaining a positive, service-oriented attitude. Possess initiative, good judgment, and responsibility for decision making.
- Prioritizes responsibilities ensuring deadlines and expectations are maintained. Attention to detail is imperative.
- Ability to delegate ongoing patient financial advocacy to assigned advocate after initial payment arrangements have been determined.
- Support for GRHS Mission, quality improvement goals, and customer satisfaction initiatives will be expected.
- Notary license required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation decisions are made based off of several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification and licensure as well as internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of their hourly range.
Hourly Range: $22.05 to $30.88
