Coordinator of School District Communications
Purpose
The Coordinator of School District Communications supports the Director of Communications in the development
and execution of comprehensive marketing and communication strategies. This position is key to fostering and
maintaining positive public relations between the Glendale Elementary School District and its diverse
stakeholders, including families, staff, students, and the community. By implementing targeted campaigns and
initiatives, the coordinator enhances the district's visibility, reinforces its reputation, and ensures clear and
consistent messaging that aligns with organizational goals and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Public Relations and Marketing Strategy:
- Assist in developing and implementing public relations and marketing strategies aligned with
Content Creation and Website Management:
- Create multimedia content (videos, graphics, photos) to engage diverse audiences.
- Draft and edit press releases, media pitches, newsletters, social media posts, and other communication
- Manage the district’s website to ensure content is accurate, current, and accessible. Provide training
practices in website management.
Community Engagement:
- Collaborate with schools and community organizations to promote district events and initiatives. Attend
Media Relations:
- Serve as a liaison with media outlets to coordinate and monitor media coverage.
Internal Communications:
- Assist with disseminating internal communication materials for staff. Supports the supervision of
Crisis Communications:
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to
meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions
of the job include:
o Strong writing skills and the ability to write in various styles - composing articles, presentations,
talking points, press releases, social media posts, etc.
o Experience with creating digital media content for social media and website platforms. Familiar
with graphic design for marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and posters.
o Ability to shoot, edit, and produce video content with strong storytelling skills.
o Experience with photography to positively promote schools, staff, students, and the community.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform and interpret highly technical information, write technical
materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define
issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily
perform the functions of the job include: digital media, media content, social media, website creation
and implementation, and photoshoots.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate,
and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical
demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent
stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires
20% sitting, 60% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and
under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Occasional evening or weekend work may be
required for events or emergencies. Ability to travel within the district as needed.

Minimum of two years experience in communications, preferably in education or the public sector.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
