Overview:
The ESG Analyst in Glenmede Investment Management (GIM) will be responsible for helping to advance GIM’s ESG research and initiatives, reporting directly to the Director of ESG Investing. Responsibilities will include supporting GIM’s fundamental ESG Integration efforts, researching ESG data, industry, and regulatory trends, developing content and ESG reports, and monitoring GIM’s shareholder engagement process, among other responsibilities as needs arise.
Responsibilities:
ESG integration.
- Investment documentation development and review: Collaborate with fundamental analysts across strategy teams to assist in review and documentation of material ESG criteria in investment analysis
- Framework building: Support the development of an ESG integration framework across new asset classes (i.e. fixed income)
- Externalization: Contribute to external communication efforts including investment philosophy articulation, ESG characteristic reporting, client education, etc.
Research. Conduct primary research focused on ESG investing trends and financial materiality (as defined by sector-specific investment risks and opportunities):
- Data: Partner with quantitative team to assess and evaluate ESG data and vendors, both for investment integration and client reporting
- Sector research: Assist fundamental analysts in research evaluating and defining financially relevant criteria on a sector-specific basis
- Regulatory Trends: Exploration of emerging regulatory frameworks and impact on GIM’s business – including TCFD, SFDR, etc.
Capability Development. Assist the Director of ESG Investing in selected product strategy & development functionality. Specifically, via:
- Industry research: Evaluate and report on competitor and industry trends in ESG space as it relates to vehicle development, investment themes, client interest, etc., to identify gaps and opportunities for launch
- Product Management: Ideation, pitch, and implementation of new capability launches, including SMAs, mutual funds, or ETFs.
Content. Assist in development of thought leadership pieces on various ESG investing topics – in particular, to articulate the framework and process for GIM’s ESG integration efforts, but also ESG mandated and thematic content specific to GIM’s Responsible ESG and Women in Leadership strategies, respectively.
Shareholder engagement. Contribute to the advancement of GIM’s shareholder engagement efforts including proxy voting reviews and shareholder resolution research and construction as a member of GIM’s Investment Stewardship Committee.
External Communication. Selectively attend client meetings and/or industry events, representing Glenmede’s efforts.
Internal communication. Facilitate dialogue between investment teams across asset classes and departments to ensure ESG philosophy and investment approach is consistently applied.
Strategic Expansion: Active engagement in department-specific and firm-wide initiatives in order to expand capabilities, create solutions to unmet business needs, improve client experience, or develop more efficient processes. Ability and willingness to contribute to the advancement of team, office and business capabilities. Other duties as required by the position.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably with demonstrated coursework in finance (investments), sustainability, and data analysis.
- 1-3 years of relevant and substantive experience in ESG investing
Preferred Qualification
- Interest in pursuing Sustainability certification (SASB FSA Credential, CFA certificate in ESG Investing)
- Interest in pursuing investment certification (CFA)
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, communication and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated interest in financial markets, environment, and broad ESG application
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of global capital markets and securities along with a passion for investing
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate follow-up capabilities with solid attention to detail
