Description

Glenville State University is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in music. Individuals with a commitment to teaching and scholarly excellence are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have responsibility for teaching, advising, participating in departmental and university service activities, and participating in professional development. Specifically, the successful candidate will teach courses in music technology, organize the recording and archiving of on campus performances, keep inventory of all music technology and equipment, and teach in their applied area. The position will begin January 2025. Appointment will be made either at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Lecturer level (renewable contract), depending upon qualifications. Candidates with an expertise in percussion are encouraged to apply, although all who meet necessary qualifications will be considered.

Examples of Duties

The successful applicant is expected to

  • Teach 12 credit hours (the equivalent of 4 courses, to include applied lessons, assistant professor) or 15 credit hours (the equivalent of 5 courses, lecturer) in music per semester. Courses are dependent on qualifications and background, but will include music technology and individual applied instruction.

Record and archive campus performances.

Keep accurate inventory of music technology equipment.

Develop, implement, and engage in professional development activities related to teaching music and performing.

Assist with departmental and program assessment.

Assist with student recruitment and retention.

Typical Qualifications

A master's degree in music or music education is required for the lecturer position; a PhD, DMA, or EdD is required for appointment as an assistant professor. The successful candidate must have least 18 graduate hours in music or music pedagogy.

Life Insurance : $10,000 free to employees, optional coverage up to $500,000 based on age and salary. Additional plans are available for spouse and child coverage.

Accidental Death Insurance : Optional employee or family plan of $25,000 to $100,000. For details contact the payroll department.

Retirement Plan : The college matches your 6 percent contribution (tax exempt dollars) towards TIAA / CREF or Teacher's Retirement System. Thus, 12 percent of your gross salary is working for your retirement income. New employees must join TIAA / CREF.

TIAA Total Disability Benefits Plan : Optional employees coverage that provides (1) monthly income and (2) payments of premiums to your TIAA / CREF retirement plan to participating employees who suffer total, long-term disabilities. The cost is adjusted according to individual salary on a yearly basis. Employees become eligible upon completion of the first year of employment.

Salary : $100,000 - $500,000
