Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. is currently seeking a Deckhand for our Anchorage, AK location.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a deckhand to join our team. This person will be responsible for safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally compliant deckhand duties. In addition, this person supports vessel operations offshore and in harbor for Global’s dive support vessels.
Position Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for getting underway, mooring, anchoring, and line-handling in all weather conditions.
- Control lines to moor vessel to wharves, tie up vessel to another vessel, or rig towing lines.
- Perform lookout duties while underway - including watching for other vessels, monitoring traffic conditions and potentially unsafe conditions onboard, and otherwise.
- Keep vessels and equipment maintained by performing a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties.
- Perform maintenance and construction tasks as required.
- Perform minor engineering repairs and engineering rounds as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure that safety equipment is utilized, and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials.
- Carry out and complete assigned tasks within the legal requirements of USCG and other regulatory agencies.
- Participate in meetings, training, drills, and safety audits as required by USCG & company policy.
- Drive company vehicles as needed.
Required Skills
- All employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must have a valid driver’s license and valid car insurance and submit a driving record.
- Must be able to provide and/or obtain a TWIC card within 90 days of employment.
- Must complete GDS mandatory training and other required programs.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and Physical.
- Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills
- Current knowledge of DOT regulations preferred.
Required Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Credentials
- 24hr or 40hr Hazwoper
- First Aid, CPR, and AED
- Maritime and vessel experience
Physical / Mental Requirements
- Ability to work any day of the week, both night and day
- Available for after-hours emergency response
- Ability to travel to project sites and work approximately 30 days on at a time.
- Ability to complete a pre-employment drug test and participate in a random drug and alcohol testing program.
- Ability to successfully complete a background check.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to withstand the following for up to 12 hours per day in all weather conditions (Sun, Rain, Sleet, and Snow): stand, sit, walk, push, pull, squat, crouch, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, repetitive reaching, and repetitive hand use.
- Ability to meet DOT, USCG, or HAZMAT physical & additional fitness ability requirements for the position.
Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The company will not provide a work visa or relocation for this position.
