This position is BASED IN SELDOVIA, ALASKA for the 2024 FERRY SEASON.
GENERAL INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Exempt Maritime Crew Job Type: Contract
Reports to: Vessel Captain Amount of Travel Required: 90%
Positions Supervised: None Location: Seldovia
Work Schedule: Season started May 16th through Mid-September 2024 weather permitting. Candidates should expect to travel to Seldovia several weeks prior to the season start in order to participate in training, drills, and inspections. Check ferry schedule at http://seldoviabayferry.com/
POSITION OVERVIEW
Ensure passenger safety, provide customer service, assist in and/or conduct vessel operations and maintenance as directed by the Vessel Captain.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform individual station bill responsibilities
- Participate in safety drills and training
- Assist with Kachemak Voyager vessel operations
- On-board passenger ticket sales and collection of money
- Load and unload passengers under direction of the Senior Deckhand or First Mate
- Respond as assigned to all vessel emergencies in accordance with safety procedures
- Actively engage passengers to provide outstanding customer service
- Maintain vessel cleanliness and appearance to the highest standards
- Assist in performing vessel maintenance in accordance with phased maintenance schedules
- Inspect all areas of the vessel for environmental, safety, and health deficiencies on a regular schedule. Report all deficiencies to the Vessel Captain. Under direction of the Vessel Captain, First Mate or Senior Deckhand, carry out corrective actions to the maximum extent possible.
- Complete routine reports as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required
- Experience: 1 Year on board vessels with related responsibility. Passenger vessel experience a plus. Customer Service experience a plus.
- Computer Skills: Ability to use a mobile device for taking payments. Ability to use basic functions of a computer, such as typing and minor date entry.
- Certificates & Licenses: CPR / First Aid Certification (may be provided by Seldovia Village Tribe)
- Other: Must be able to conduct basic arithmetic. Must be 18 years of age or older.
