Job Responsibilities For The Pharmacy Technician Include
- Entering and processing new and refill prescription orders, and supply and equipment requests while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
- Filling patient orders accurately by selecting and retrieving the appropriate medications, verifying quantities, and preparing prescription labels for medications and related supplies.
- Forwarding orders to the Pharmacist for completion, verification, and/or clarification.
- Accurately enters data into the pharmacy computer system so that appropriate paperwork is generated.
- Selecting appropriate supplies and ancillaries based on medication requirements, patient need, and preference.
- Contacts patients, caregivers, and prescribers as needed to secure refill authorization, initiate order clarification, and obtain information necessary to complete the patient profile and the dispensing process.
- Adjudicating pharmacy claims, reviewing and resolving claim rejections; contacting insurance plans for assistance as needed.
- Assists with product purchasing, inventory, and equipment management as needed.
- Ensures client-specific materials are paired with order and prepared for shipment.
- The technician assists in the shipping process by: selecting appropriate packing materials and packing methods and generating shipping labels.
- Prior to the end of their shift or as scheduled, clean dispensing area equipment and replenish workstation supplies.
- Providing excellent customer service to patients, internal and external customers.
- Performs additional duties as assigned as related to the practice of pharmacy which do not require a pharmacist's professional judgement.
- Three to five years of pharmacy experience Understands drug terminology and therapies/services provided in specialty pharmacy.
- Understands and can perform intermediate pharmaceutical calculations in order to obtain correct doses of medications.
- Understands the broader organizational structure and the scope of services the company has to offer.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information.
- Observes legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and proprietary company information.
- Understands and complies with HIPAA. Participates in the process of assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment error and/or failures.
- Accurately completes quality assurance forms and forwards them to the supervising pharmacist. In all activities, complies with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Participates in on-call responsibilities of the pharmacy department if required.
