Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the coding department, ensuring timely and accurate coding of medical records.
- Develop and implement coding policies and procedures that align with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular audits of coded data to ensure accuracy and compliance, providing feedback and training as necessary.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, billing departments, and other stakeholders to resolve coding discrepancies or issues.
- Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and technology advancements to ensure best practices are followed.
- Mentor and train coding staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Analyze coding metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and implement strategies for enhanced performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred; certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in medical coding with a strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing a team in a healthcare setting.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA is essential.
