Responsibilities.
- Draw patient blood for requested tests, using needles, finger sticks or other means
- Label blood sample correctly; match specimens to patients
- Prepare blood samples for transport to laboratory of testing
- Dispose of contaminated and biohazardous materials in accordance with laws, regulations, and procedures
- Ensure the Phlebotomy Lab maintains GCP and NIH CC guidelines
- Maintain Chain of Custody Sheets, Maintain Sample Submission Forms
- Correct and log discrepancies/clarification pertaining to sample collections and impart changes to policies to prevent future errors.
- Perform QC testing and maintain log on products used for procedures
- Note blood collection information in patients records, as required
- Identify patients by reviewing their identity documents, including ID, medical records or other means.
- Develops and maintains detailed inventories of phlebotomy materials and supplies needed to carry out the required protocols in the clinic
- Inform staff of product recalls or Clinical Center changes in product manufacturers or product availability
- Coordinate laboratory supplies needed for completion of required protocol timepoints; Monitor supply chain issues that may impact current clinical protocols
- Verify inventory of supplies needed from sources outside the Clinical Center, Ensure the required quantity of supplies and materials to optimize production, Monitor expiration date and availability of supplies. Monitor stock to ensure it is being utilized within the proper time limitations, Replenish medical supplies for phlebotomy area and exam room and ensure expired supplies are disposed of properly
- Promptly identify, remove, report and dispose of outdated and/or contaminated supplies to NIH, to JCHCO and Environmental Audits
- Perform and document pregnancy tests on volunteers prior to vaccination as per protocols and clinician instruction
Qualifications
- The at least one of the following certifications are preferred:
- CPR Certification (Healthcare Provider)
- Phlebotomist Certification
- Patient Care Technician or Nursing Aid Certification
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Scheduling, Recruitment, Screening, and/or On-site visits
- Analysis and/or quality assurance
- Superior Phlebotomy Skills
- Superior Customer Service
- Attention to detail with excellent planning/organizational and time management skills
- Ability to embrace change and demonstrate flexibility
- Effective Verbal Communication Skills
