The Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) is a pioneering research organization that uses genomic approaches to addressing critical challenges facing our oceans, human health, and the environment through innovative scientific research and education. To help shape that growth, we seek an innovative and impactful marine scientist, leveraging genomic technologies to understand and advance sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity, ocean resiliency, or related areas of marine science.

Key Responsibilities
· Research Excellence: Establish a research program using genomics and advanced computational approaches to address critical questions in marine organisms and/or the marine environment
· Team Building: Lead, inspire, and manage a team, while fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment
· Leadership & Strategy: Help expand the Institute’s vision and research
· Dissemination: Give presentations to the scientific community, donors, and general audiences; publish results in leading scientific journals and present them at scientific conferences
· Strategic Partnerships: Represent GMGI and the Institute to external stakeholders, build collaborations with organizations, industry, and government agencies, and strengthen GMGI’s global presence
· Fundraising & Outreach: Collaborate with the GMGI leadership and the development team to secure philanthropic funding and engage donors in supporting the Center's mission to identify new funding opportunities and advance the Institute’s portfolio of grants and publications
Ideal Candidate Profile
An entrepreneurial and effective scientist with:
- Expertise: Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with deep knowledge in applying genomic approaches to conduct marine science that enhances or synergizes with one or more Institute’s interest area: sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity, and ocean resilience
- Proven Leadership: A track record of managing a scientific team and experience in strategic program development and execution
- Research Impact: Demonstrated success in securing long-term funding, publishing impactful research, and building connections with federal agencies, foundations, and other stakeholders
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: A forward-thinking approach to growing teams, fostering innovation, and driving scientific excellence in a start-up environment
- Exceptional Communication: Ability to engage audiences across all levels, from scientists and policymakers to lay audiences and donors
- Commitment to Mission: Passion for GMGI’s vision and the drive to make a meaningful impact on marine science and life sciences communities
