SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TRAINER – PART TIME
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of criminal history background check.
- Proof of US citizenship.
- Possess valid CDL license with proper endorsements for driving a school bus.
- Proven safe driving records and practices.
- Minimum of three years’ experience as school bus driver.
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL:
To provide in person training and support to district employees attempting to acquire a commercial driving license (CDL).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and supervisors.
- Plan for and train new bus drivers in all aspects of safe driving, including maintenance pre-checks, vehicle operations of all types of vehicles, and safety requirements specific to bus drivers with State Mandated Requirements in order to prepare the individuals for the CDL road test.
- Provide assistance to new applicants in obtaining CDL, medical certificates, etc.
- Monitor driver trainees and assist in scheduling their road test.
- Evaluate driving skills and track new driver proficiency.
- Counsel and assist new bus drivers.
- Provide technical information and observations regarding the training performance of new drivers
- Interpret, apply and explain State and District rules and procedures.
- Prepare training records with schedules for new drivers; i.e., classroom, behind the wheel training, daily walk around procedures.
- Prepare documentation for the purpose of providing new drivers with written support and conveying vital information to them.
ABILITY:
- Operate a school bus exercising good judgement and extreme caution.
- Organize and execute a new Driving Training Program to produce effective and safe drivers.
- Prepare new bus training curricula.
- Operate a two-way radio to communicate instructions to new bus drivers for routine and emergency problems
- Interpret, apply and explain policies and procedures.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Make common sense decisions in potentially critical situations.
- Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Driver trainer must be off contracted time in order to be considered for the position.
- Driver trainer will submit a time sheet for each training session.
COMPENSATION:
$25.00/hr.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Provide a minimum of 20 hours in person training to new bus drivers on a schedule determined by the Transportation Supervisor and to provide on-going support and on the road training and evaluation as requested by the Transportation Supervisor.
