Telecommunications Field Technician - Travelling
Classification : Non-exempt
Location : California – 100% travel throughout California and the western US
Duration : 6 months, with extension
Pay : $25 - $34 p / h, W2
Reports To : Project Manager
Working Hours : Night shift, will work maintenance windows
Summary / Objective : Glow Networks is a premier telecom staffing and services company, and we are seeking qualified Cell site / BTS Installation Technicians and CO Technicians who are familiar with :
- Telcom equipment installation (rack and stack)
- Installing 25 pair cable with waxed string, proper termination, and color code
- Kansas City stitch
- Fiber installation
- 48 VDC power installation and safety
- Familiarity with cell site equipment installation
- Familiarity with mobile switching is a plus
In this role, the technician will perform maintenance, installation and repair activities on OEM equipment and equipment from various manufacturers. Will also work on circuit wiring, optical cable, associated -24V and -48V DC power, and ground cables. All work will be performed on customer sites and must be fully documented. Technicians will strictly adhere to safety standards. This role is well suited for BTS Technicians, Cell Site Technicians, or Telecom Field Technicians, with installation experience. This is a staff level position and requires a minimum of 3 - 5 years of telecom installation experience.
Essential Functions :
Install network elements in existing equipment rackPerform physical installation including site survey, "rack and stack", cabling, fiber; power and ground installation work will be requiredCommission newly installed equipment, verify power-up, and support on-site integration, as needed by customerRun new fiber and communication cabling as needed; use existing cable plant when appropriateInstall 25 pair and CAT 5e cables. RJ45 / RJ48 connectors, optical fibers with connectors, perform port testing, labeling and dress all wiring, per corporate standardsDocument work performed per customer standard requirementsOther Functions :
May perform optical network and other communications equipment testingComplete all required tests in order to gain access to customer cell sites and facilitiesRead and understand Scope of Work (SOW) and Memorandum of Procedure (MOP)Complete all technical reading and study requirements to earn CO accessMust be familiar with and be able to comply with standard trouble-shooting protocolsWork Environment / Physical Demands :
Work will be performed on site in a moderate background noise environmentRoad Warrior job, 100% travelMust have own standard tools, per tool list; company will provide specialized toolsExtensive use of hand tools, wire cutters, pliers, screwdrivers, and specialized wiring tools; electronic tablet to track work tasks; some power tools may also be usedAdhere to all safety standards around low voltage and high voltage electric powerExtensive travel within market - road trips, long and short hotel stays are expectedRequired Education / Experience and Competencies :
