What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Steel Department position at GMD Shipyard Corp.?
The Welder Intern, under direct supervision, will learn to perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of shipyard or vessel welding projects. Relies on direct supervision to plan and accomplish goals.
- Learn to operate accessory equipment and perform tasks necessary for welding metal, such as fusing metal segments, using gas tungsten arc, metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and other types of welding arcs.
- Follow environmental and safety regulations and act in compliance with US laws.
- Learn to prepare and/or study technical drawings, specifications of structures to ensure installation and operations conform to vessel and shipyard requirements.
- Confer with supervisory representatives to discuss existing or potential welding/fitting projects.
Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear is required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
