In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West Project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Geology, the Exploration Manager will be responsible for leading and managing all activities related to exploration. This role will ensure the efficient, safe, and cost-effective exploration of Oko West Project. The manager will oversee exploration teams, conduct geological analysis, assess risks, and ensure compliance with local regulations while striving for the discovery of new deposits that can be developed into profitable mining operations.
Working Conditions
The Exploration Manager position at the OKO West project site in Guyana will be a rotation-based role, offering flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the successful candidate’s location and personal preferences.
Key Responsibilities
1. Exploration Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement the overall exploration strategy aligned with the company’s long-term goals.
- Analyze and interpret the mineral potential of the property to define opportunities, both brownfields and greenfields.
- Plan and prioritize exploration activities based on resource potential, cost, and risk factors.
- Conduct geological analysis and interpret data to assess the viability of mineral deposits.
- Ensure all exploration claims are in good standing to continue exploration.
- Oversee and manage drilling programs, ensuring the quality of geological data collection from drill to database
- Supervise core shack activities to ensure efficient and best practice processes are in place.
- Oversee all aspects of exploration projects from initial planning to final reporting.
- Develop and manage exploration project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful execution.
- Prepare and present detailed project reports and updates to management.
- Monitor project progress, address challenges, and implement solutions as needed.
- Ensure exploration activities are completed within scope, on time, and within budget.
- Coordinate field operations, including drilling programs, trenching, soil sampling and mapping.
- Manage resources and ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
3. Team Leadership and Coordination
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of geologists, engineers, drillers, and other exploration personnel.
- Provide mentorship and training for team members to ensure high standards of work and professional growth.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., environmental, legal, and safety teams) to ensure smooth and coordinated operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Mining Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mineral exploration, including [3-5] years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing large exploration projects, including budgeting, planning, and execution.
- Experience in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Surpac, Micromine).
- An excellent understanding of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments.
- An ability to think across-scales and to integrate diverse, large datasets.
