In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West Project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Geology, the Project Geologist manage data collection, data analysis and development activities in support of exploration for Oko West Project. This role will be responsible to ensure the quality of the geological data acquisition and interpretation, as well as reporting & budget management.
Working Conditions
The Project Geologist position at the OKO West project site in Guyana will be a rotation-based role, offering flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the successful candidate’s location and personal preferences.
Key Responsibilities
1. Field Exploration
- Conduct field work including geological mapping, trenching, soil sampling to define viable exploration target prior to drilling.
- Oversee and manage drilling programs, ensuring the quality of geological data collection from drill to database.
- Supervise core shack activities to ensure an efficient and best practice processes are in place.
- Monitor field operations, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
2. Generative Geology
- Analyze and interpret geological data (core logs, mapping, geophysical surveys) to support mineral resource exploration.
- Detailed interpretation, analysis, and continuous improvement in understanding the controls on gold mineralization at the existing deposits, and to refine and develop exploration targets.
- Analyze and interpret the mineral potential of the property to define opportunities, both brownfields and greenfields.
- Work in a collaborative and mentoring role to foster the development of ideas and critical thinking leading to strong geological models and robust "on-property" exploration targets
- Support project teams and senior management in their need to articulate ideas, conclusions and recommendations in a manner that is visually compelling and readily understood by third parties, often non-technical individuals and/or investors
- Contribute to developing exploration work programs and to strategic exploration planning.
- Plan and manage geological work programs, adhering to project schedules and budget constraints.
- Manage resources and ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Prepare and present detailed project reports and updates to management.
- Monitor project progress, address challenges, and implement solutions as needed.
- Lead project teams with effective leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to achieve successful outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Geology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Strong geological modelling skills required.
- 5 years of experience in Exploration.
- An excellent understanding of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments.
- An ability to think across-scales and to integrate diverse, large datasets.
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, environment, and community.
- A track record of talent development with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Shown to be self-motivated and possesses leadership abilities.
- Proficient with Leapfrog, GIS, and SQL databases.
