Job Description
Job Title: Controller
Department: Accounting
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Santa Maria, CA
Summary:
The Controller at Gold Coast Packing will be responsible for planning and directing the accounting operations of multiple companies within our family-owned business, which spans various sectors of the agricultural industry. This role will involve comprehensive financial management, including accounting, and financial reporting, budgeting, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Lead and develop a team of five employees, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
· Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
· Design and implement training programs to address skill gaps and enhance team performance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Maintain and update a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, implementing controls to minimize risks.
· Oversee the timely production of financial reports, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
· Develop and maintain an accurate cost accounting system to support business decisions.
· Analyze business activities to determine costs, including raw material purchases, inventory management, and labor expenses.
· Establish benchmarks for performance measurement and provide insights to management.
· Prepare annual budgets and forecasts, highlighting significant variances to management as needed.
· Conduct financial analysis, with a focus on cost and pricing strategies.
· Generate special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data to identify trends and insights.
· Monitor the financial health of the organization by analyzing key metrics and reporting findings.
· Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Exceptional leadership and supervisory skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
· Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
· Hands-on experience with Famous software and the produce industry is highly desirable.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Epicor, and Pet Tiger.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
· Minimum of 10 years of related experience in accounting and financial management.
· Prior experience with cost accounting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
· Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $120,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
