Job Summary
The Assistant Store Manager at Golden Gate Petroleum, Inc. supports the Store Manager in the daily business operations of the store, including training and supervising employees, interacting with customers, managing inventory levels, and handling any other task assigned by the Store Manager. Assistant Store Managers complete management and organizational duties that support the efficiency of a store’s operation and promote a great shopping experience for our customers.
Essential Functions
- Drive sales and service initiatives by providing exceptional customer service and effectively responding to customer inquiries and complaints.
- Assign duties and responsibilities to employees in accordance with work requirements.
- Direct and supervise employees engaged in sales, inventory management, cash handling, and customer relations.
- Train and coach employees on company policy and best practices to ensure safety protocols are being met.
- Support the cleanliness and appearance of the store by stocking inventory, cleaning throughout the store, bagging ice, and preparing food and beverages as needed.
- Examine merchandise to ensure that it is correctly priced and displayed and aide in inventory and cash auditing.
- Reinforce company policy and procedure and regulatory requirements through ongoing and routine safety meetings and inspections.
- Collaborate with management in the assessment of current practices and implementation of efficient solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead staff, help customers, and work with management.
- Ability to work unsupervised, in a fast-paced environment.
- May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age. Some locations may only hire 21 and over.
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
- Prior supervisory and retail experience is preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license and car insurance.

- Food Handlers permit is a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and POS systems.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Job Requirements
- This position requires the ability to remain in a standing stationary position more than half the time.
- The person in this position will need to move about the store and position him/herself (ex: kneel, crawl, crouch down) to fulfill the essential functions of the role more than half the time.
- The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) up to 50 lbs.
- This position operates machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex: typing, sweeping, slicing deli meat, operating the Point-of-Sale system, etc.).
- This position is exposed to hazardous/chemical materials and outdoor weather conditions less than half the time.
- This position operates heavy machinery less than half the time and the individual in this role must be able to meet all safety requirements of the respective equipment.
Travel Requirements
- This position requires the ability to travel locally 2% of the time, mostly on weekends.
