The PositionThe City of Goleta is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lead Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department, supporting the Street Maintenance and the Parks and Open Space Divisions. Currently, the City is looking to fill two (2) vacancies.Candidates must be available to work weekends, occasional nights, and be responsive to emergency callbacks as needed. A keen attention to detail, combined with effective communication and organizational skills, is needed to ensure work is completed to the highest standards, on time, and within budget.When assigned to Parks and Open Space, this role will provide essential support in the performance and oversight of daily operations of staff and/or contractors maintaining park grounds and facilities, including landscaping, irrigation systems, playground equipment, urban forest management, and trails, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed, and performing more complex maintenance and repair work as needed.When assigned to Street Maintenance, this role will provide essential support in the performance and oversight of daily operations of staff and/or contractors with the maintenance of city streets and right of way. Successful candidates will have experience operating equipment such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, and specialized tools, as well as experience in asphalt street repairs, concrete sidewalk repairs, painting, and weed abatement.Regardless of assigned division, the Lead Maintenance Worker provides maintenance and support to the city’s splash pad, which includes routine cleaning, inspections, and minor repairs when the facility is operational.Note on salary: Effective the first pay period of January 2025, this position will receive a 3% base salary increase.Depending on the needs of the department and subject to certification, this position may be eligible for Bilingual Pay, currently at $65 per pay period.
