Government Affairs/Grassroots Advocacy Specialist
GCSAA is seeking an individual with a proven track record of providing excellent advocacy support in government affairs. This position’s primary purpose will be to manage GCSAA’s Grassroots Ambassador Program. This full-time position will proactively advance the legislative and grassroots goals, while overseeing the formal grassroots network to harness the power of GCSAA members at the local, state and federal levels of government. Position will recruit, vet and onboard GCSAA members and chapters to serve as advocates and motivate them to build relationships with elected officials to provide education on golf course management to preserve and protect the future of the game of golf.
Qualified candidates possess:
- Excellent customer service with high follow up/follow through skills; articulate, personable and diplomatic
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including grammar, proofreading, and prioritization skills; attention to detail
- Analytical with the ability to distill complex issues into concise talking points, and succinctly convey impacts on members and constituents
- Highly skilled in research methods with an aptitude for internet research strategies
- Create and deliver impactful presentations that incorporate data from a variety of sources internally & externally
- Ability to build successful relationships and establish collaborative efforts with all GCSAA stakeholders
- Understand and interpret constitutional provisions, statutes, and administrative regulations
- Candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Turfgrass Management or related field or equivalent experience
- 2-4 years of relevant experience or intern work in government affairs
- Familiarity with social media outlets and using these avenues to engage diverse audiences
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) with ability to learn new web platforms and databases. Mac Keynote expertise a plus.
- Knowledge or experience in the golf/agriculture/horticulture industries is a plus but not required
- Position will reside at our headquarters in Lawrence, KS

Compensation rate is $25.50 - $26.50/hour.
