Primary Purpose :
Oversee district efforts in the areas of Special Education, 504, GT, Migrant, Homeless, English Language Learners, Counseling, CCMR, Testing, State and Federal Accountability. Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
Master's degree in educational administration and / or counseling, required
Valid Texas Principal certification or equivalent, preferred
Special Education Certification, required
Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to special programs
Knowledge of positive discipline support programs
Ability to disseminate information to individuals and groups
Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and laws
Ability to deliver effective training to a variety of audiences
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to mediate, problem solve, and resolve conflict
Experience :
3 Years Teaching Experience
3 School Counselor Experience
Campus or district leadership Experience, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties :
Program Management and Administration
- Work cooperatively with campus principals and staff in developing and implementing dyslexia, special education, GT, 504, and ELL programs for full compliance and implementation (from referral, onboarding, to progress monitoring)
- Consult with and assist campus-based administrators, professionals, teachers, and parents to meet the educational needs of students eligible for student services.
- Assist campus teams in writing IEP and 504 plans that allow students access to the full range of educational and co-curricular opportunities that are available to all other eligible students in the district. Evaluate the necessity for specific accommodations.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a balanced, comprehensive, developmental counseling program that is consistent with district goals and objectives and includes guidance curriculum and responsive services for students.
- Oversee and train district and campus staff on state, federal accountability systems and requirements and serve as District Testing Coordinator while directing Campus Testing Coordinators for full implementation of GISD testing program.
