Job Summary
The Classified Instructional Assistant will provide instructional support to students in various subject areas, including reading, math, language development, social studies, art, ethnic studies, music, and physical education. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a team, and have a passion for helping students achieve their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support to students in assigned subject areas
- Assist teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment
- Work directly with students, interpreting classroom assignments and providing feedback
- Set up work areas and prepare materials for class use
- Read to students and listen to students read
- Attend and participate in planning and evaluating sessions
- Drill students in assigned subject matter
- Administer and score tests
- May supervise students at lunch, on playground, and field trips
- Prepare charts, flash cards, work sheets, art materials, bulletin boards, lesson plans, tests, forms, displays, maps, and similar materials
- May take attendance and lunch counts
- Order supplies
- Assist teacher with parent contacts and prepares reports
- Assist with routine clerical duties and operates various office machines
- Maintain routine information and operational records
- Assist students with the use of AV aids and technology
- May assist with bus loading and unloading
- May perform special duties in the areas of independent study, enrichment, or library work
- May collect money and tickets received from the sale of food and beverages and account for daily receipts and serve lunches
- Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly environment
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
- Certificate of Competency for Instructional Assistants and Aides
- Knowledge of subject areas assigned
- District policies, procedures, regulations, and resources
- Office methods and equipment, including receptionist, telephone, letter and report writing techniques
- Techniques of student supervision
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Simple arithmetic
- Ability to use technology and computer software applications appropriate to the work environment
- Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public
- Communicate effectively in English and designated language, both orally and in writing
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions without immediate supervision
- Meet schedules and time lines
- Prepare and maintain accurate clerical records
Desirable Qualifications
Prior experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups is desirable. Additionally, the ability to communicate in multiple languages is highly valued.
