Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is hiring a part time Finance Director. This position will partner with the Operations Executive Director and the Church Council to ensure the Church's financial operations are processed and reported accurately with integrity.
Position Summary:
Job Location: This is an onsite position in Naperville, IL. There is some flexibility to work from home on an as needed basis.
Hours: Part-time, 30 hours per week, daytime hours (between 8 AM- 5 PM)
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $45,000-$55,000 annually based on education, training, and previous work experience.

Organization Overview:
Good Shepherd Church is focused on serving the spiritual needs of our local community and on leveraging the time, talents and financial resources of people in this area to help others in our community, across the nation and around the world. Good Shepherd has over 20 employees and about 600 active members who attend congregation weekly. They also have over 15 different ministries to connect with members of the church ranging from children, teens, and adults as well as focused ministries such as grief support and mental health awareness. Responsibilities:
- Assists in maintaining the highest possible financial standards and professional ethics in accordance with the goals, mission and purpose statements of Good Shepherd Church.
- Confidentially manages all financial activities of the organization including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, financial management and reporting, internal control and auditing, budget tracking and reporting.
- Assures compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws related to payroll, finance, and investments.
- Serves as liaison to the Church Council, Operations Executive Director, and the Finance Committee (if applicable) on a regular basis, including preparation/attendance at monthly meetings.
- Arranges and facilitates audit as needed, working as a liaison for auditors.
- Oversees bank reconciliations.
- Coordinates relationship with investment managers and related investment reporting.
- Maintains church's fixed asset records.
- Oversees data management and reports on weekly giving; reviews annual giving, produces year end giving reports, maintains tax reporting requirements.
- Manages payroll including tracking paid leave balances.
- Reviews, analyzes, and maintains employee health insurance benefits as it relates to payroll and vendor payment and accountability.
- Monitors cash position and oversees accounts payable
- Monitors budget and reports monthly on financial spending of various ministry areas.
- Supervises assigned staff including hiring, coaching, goal setting, and performance management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field and 5 years of relevant experience
- Previous work experience at a church or nonprofit setting preferred
- MBA or CPA preferred
- 2 supervisor experience
- Strong knowledge and ability in financial accounting, including control and reporting methods and standards within a non-profit
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data for the purpose of improving systems and maximizing overall financial performance
- Strong skill in managing payroll, budget, and accounts payable and receivable
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships staff and others and convey high quality oral and written communications.
