Senior/Chief Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction (Underground Utilities, Roads, Bridges, Marine)
Goodall Brazier is proud to collaborate with a leading heavy civil contractor based in Southern Florida, specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects, including underground utilities, roadways, bridges, and marine construction. We are seeking a Senior/Chief Estimator with at least 5 years of heavy civil construction experience to lead preconstruction efforts and ensure the successful execution of competitive and negotiated bids.
The Senior Estimator will play a pivotal role in preconstruction, working closely with engineers, owners, and subcontractors to ensure accurate cost assessments and strategic planning. Reporting directly to the VP of Preconstruction, this position will manage a team of 5 estimators and oversee all aspects of the estimating process. Oversee all aspects of the estimating process and is expected to transition into a successor role within 18-24 months.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the full-cycle estimating process for heavy civil infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, tunnels, marine structures, and underground utilities.
- Analyse project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to identify risks, cost implications, and value engineering opportunities.
- Develop detailed cost estimates, including quantity take-offs, subcontractor/vendor pricing, and labour analysis.
- Manage and coordinate bid solicitations, evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals, and make award recommendations.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to determine resource allocation and project feasibility.
- Provide strategic recommendations for cost-saving measures without compromising project integrity.
- Prepare and present bid proposals, cost reports, and budget updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Engage in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations to strengthen industry relationships.
- Stay informed on market trends, material costs, labour pricing, and regulatory updates impacting heavy civil construction.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in heavy civil estimating, with a strong background in underground utilities, roads, bridges, or marine construction.
- Expertise in cost analysis, bid preparation, and contract evaluation within the heavy civil sector.
- Proven ability to lead estimating teams and mentor junior estimators.
- Strong knowledge of DOT and municipal construction standards, as well as risk assessment in heavy civil projects.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred but not required.
- A detail-oriented and strategic mindset with the ability to drive competitive, high-value bids.
