Job Summary
The Assistant Purchaser will maintain the organization’s inventory, ordering and supplying necessary items while maintaining accurate records of all procurements. This role reports to the Director of Purchasing to provide organizational support across commodities, packaging, materials & operations, and ingredients procurement.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Review on-hand inventory, current activity, and past activity.
- Issues supplies to production team.
- Ensure materials are in proper locations.
- Open cartons, bundles, and other containers to count items.
- Report discrepancies of over/under amounts and any damaged products to supervision.
- Assist in receiving and put away process
- Assist in transfers to and from shipping and receiving area.
- Facilities loss & destruction process.
- Provides inventory reports to purchasing team.
- Communicates inventory information to warehouse team to facilitate staging of material for upcoming production schedule.
- Assists with periodic (at least annual) physical inventory audits.
- Communicate new material needs
- Review material demand
- Help implement and refine the supply chain process across the organization, focusing on plant level requirement system improvements
- Create purchase orders
- Performs other related duties as requested.
- Enters production batch into ERP system
- Oversees that all inventory entries are accurately entered into ERP system.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2 year experience working in a manufacturing environment required.
- 2 year experience with computerized inventory systems required.
- SAP ERP/WMS system proficient preferred.
- Forklift operator certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills with warehouse workers, purchasing department, accounting department, operations team, and outside vendors.
- Basic understanding of inventory control procedures.
- Proficient keyboarding skills.
- Extremely organized and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to develop professional relationships with outside vendors.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
