CONTROLLER:
Summary:
The Controller plays a key role in overseeing the financial health of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. This position is responsible for managing the month-end close process, supervising accounting staff, and ensuring the timely collection of receivables and payment of obligations. The Controller also prepares accurate financial statements and supports audit processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a thorough understanding of the organization's accounting operations and financial systems.
- Gain proficiency in accounting software used within the organization.
- Execute the month-end close process efficiently and accurately.
- Prepare and review monthly investment account reconciliations.
- Maintain and update fixed asset schedules.
- Prepare and post monthly closing entries.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare and deliver financial statements by the 10th business day of the month.
- Train and supervise staff assigned to financial engagements.
- Review daily accounting entries to ensure proper classification and accuracy.
- Oversee the timely mailing of outstanding receivable invoices.
- Recommend and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures in alignment with client requirements.
- Prepare audit schedules, confirmation letters, and other necessary documentation.
- Assist in responding to auditor inquiries and provide necessary support during audits.
- Work with programmatic departments to reconcile grants
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of diversified accounting experience, including month-end close responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of non-profit accounting standards, internal controls, and financial processes.
- Ability to work independently on client assignments while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent time management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in non-profit organizations.
- Proficiency in FundEZ or similar accounting software.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working with accounting software systems.
