We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our Accounting Finance team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead and manage the financial health of our company. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our financial systems, including accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget, internal controls, and tax planning. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain internal control safeguards and coordinate all audit activities.
- Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Support the CFO in engaging the board's audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department's overall policy and procedure manual.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field. A CPA, CMA, or other finance-related certification is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a senior financial managerial position, with a focus on finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems and federal and state financial regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the company's mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance.
- Ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
- A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants is essential.
- Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increase efficiency in a fast-moving environment.
- Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
- Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results.
