Summary:
This position is responsible for performing a variety of claims customer service and secretarial duties, managing clerical projects, workflow, and files, providing claims customer service to incoming callers, including agents, policyholders and claimants, and verifying policy coverage.
Functions:
- Receive incoming loss reports, verify policy coverage, and document for review by CSR & Subrogation Supervisor.
- Assist customers with claim inquiries.
- Open, index, and scan incoming mail.
- Ensure proper mailing of claim checks and other daily correspondence.
- Run end of day, month, and quarter reports.
- Transcribe recorded statements for cases in suit and inter-company arbitration.
- Issue payment to vendors with prior management/Claims Representative approval.
- Maintain draft records for agents’ Super Service program.
- Assign claim file numbers to agent adjusted claims.
- Receive incoming agent adjusted claim checks (drafts), verify coverage on loss, and obtain bank clearance from Accounting Department before filing.
- Enter catastrophe codes into computer.
- Verify coverage and pay bills for glass claims through independent vendor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by CSR & Subrogation Supervisor.
Requirements
- High School or equivalent education required.
- Experience in or aptitude for customer service required.
- Knowledge of or aptitude to learn basic Property & Casualty insurance terminology preferred.
- Ability to effectively use a variety of office equipment, such as transcription machines, fax machines, photocopiers, printers, scanners, and personal computers required.
- Proficiency in keyboarding and data entry required.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently required.
- Effective communication skills required.
- Ability to use logic, reasoning, and diplomacy in a demanding environment required.
- Ability to work effectively with company computer systems required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, travel to all organization offices (including in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and South Dakota) and travel to vendor work sites required.
- Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise level, remain in a stationary position and operate a computer a majority of the time required.
- Ability to move throughout the office to access work materials and to move work materials weighing up to ten pounds daily required.
