Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is excited to begin its hiring process for The Excel Center. For those less familiar with The Excel Center, it provides tuition-free education for adults seeking to obtain a high school diploma. The Excel Center model was created by the Goodwill in Indianapolis in 2010, and has since grown to 47 schools across 10 states and Washington D.C. Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois will open the first Excel Center in Illinois in Fall 2025. We are currently seeking to hire The Excel Center Enrollment Specialist.
The Excel Center Enrollment Specialist is responsible for all student academic recordkeeping for The Excel Center including compiling, maintaining, and tracking student academic information and records for internal and external evaluation and/or use. The Excel Center Enrollment Specialist acts as the central records facilitator for permanent academic information on current and prior students. The role supports the instructional team in meeting the educational goals and adhering to Illinois Academic Standards.
The responsibilities and essential functions will include:
Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Student Support & Relationships
- Assists students in obtaining high school transcripts.
- Reviews student work experience portfolios and enters appropriate credits.
- Stays current with course changes.
- Organizes assessment schedules.
Tracking Student Data & Recordkeeping
- Maintains accuracy of transcripts.
- Acts as the subject matter expert for academic recordkeeping.
- Works in partnership with other schools to secure supplemental information such as transcripts or school reports to complete and maintain student files.
Data Entry
- Manages, monitors, and maintains all new, current, and archived student information ensuring the data integrity in the student information system database.
- Enters student information system data coming from the Illinois Department of Education, including student demographics, academic history, transcripts, and testing information.
- Enters student grades, finalizes, and signs off on transcripts.
- Enters courses, course additions, and course deletions into Synergy.
- Manages assessment data.
Compliance
- Ensures compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
- Assists in graduation audits with the School Leadership Team.
Setting School Culture
- Provides a welcoming environment and staffs the school’s secondary entrance.
- Provides support for school leadership, staff, and students to support student success.
- Assists with projects such as graduation, awards events, and special events.
- Attends and contributes to all team and professional development meetings.
- Maintains a strong building presence.

The qualifications and basic job requirements include:
- An associate’s degree is preferred.
- Previous experience working with data in an academic setting preferred.
- Proficient in software and data system use.
- Ability to focus on details and maintain high accuracy in work.
- Ability to gather and analyze data for informed decision making.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Empathy for and ability to work with individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment.
- Ability to take direction and effectively prioritize activities/tasks/initiatives.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
- Must be able to work 12 months per year with breaks scheduled throughout the year.
