What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Area Manager position at Goodwill Industries Of Greater Nebraska?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To ensure the delivery of exceptional operational standards throughout stores in the area assigned. To ensure compliance in all areas of operational activity and drive sales and profitability through the performance and development of Store Managers and store staff.

- Recruit, hire, train, challenge, motivate, encourage, and provide constructive guidance to store managers and their teams related to all areas of effective operations.
- Assist managers in creating and implementing short and long term goals both for the store and for themselves.
- Work to ensure that sales and operational goals and expectations are achieved through regular monitoring.
- Schedule store visits and audits to ensure compliance in all areas of customer service and store operations. Ensure the store is maintained at the highest possible standards, is well organized and is properly merchandised at all times. Ensure that all policies, procedures and controls are followed.
- Assist in resolving problems, identifying trends, implementing change and determining area/store goals.
- Identify underperforming stores and develop a plan to address and manage issues effectively.
- Encourage managers to identify trends and make suggestions for ensuring store success.
- Work to create a positive environment that results in stable retention and a reduction in employee turnover.
- Assist assigned store managers in analyzing, monitoring, and controlling store expenses to ensure efficiency in all store operations.
- Provide emergency store supervision and or support as needed.
- Ensure retail customer service standards are consistently achieved.
- Collaborate with VP of Retail Operations on establishing annual store budgets.
- Review/analyze store expense to revenue actual and budgeted ratios. Train Store Managers in understanding financial documents and assist them with setting and managing expectations of store staff.
- Travel as needed.

- Immediately report any wrongdoing, unethical or improper conduct, fraud, fiscal mismanagement or misappropriation of funds, etc. (Refer to the Corporate Compliance Program Policy and Procedure for instructions on how to report.)
- Encourage and do not hinder in any way an employee making a report pertaining to Goodwill's Corporate Compliance Program Policy and Procedure or making a report of work injury.
- Ensure no employee is retaliated against in any way as a result of making a report related to Goodwill's Corporate Compliance Program Policy and Procedure or making a report of work injury.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Five years managerial and/or supervisory experience.
- Basic knowledge of Department of Labor laws.
- Valid Nebraska drivers license and able to meet insurance requirements.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to interact positively with all levels of management and the desire to work as a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to communicate in spoken conversation, adequate volume speech, and have normal hearing for conversation and telephone use.
- Ability to be independently mobile on all surfaces and to move safely about the work area.
- Visual acuity, depth perception and field of vision within normal range.
- Have the physical stamina to work at least 8 hours per day and be able to travel to store locations.
- Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
