General Purpose:
The Store Lead is a “boots on the ground” liaison that supports the management team to reinforce and model retail best practices and policies with staff. The store lead exhibits the behaviors expected by all staff and plays an integral role in providing real-time guidance to store staff and feedback to the management team. The store lead is part of the store’s leadership bench and succession planning initiative. The position may be activated to fill a temporary management role when needed i.e. management vacations, coverage emergencies etc., and will be trained on all aspects of store operations. A Store Lead with High School Diploma or Equivalency will be promotable to Key Holder or Assistant Manager.
The position will be available to incumbent-employees-only as a growth opportunity for high-performing staff.
Essential Functions:
- Support the store team to achieve sales, ShopGoodwill and production goals.
- Serve as ShopGoodwill (SGW) sorting lead, responsible for identifying SGW product, training staff to identify product, and maintaining manifests.
- Provide real-time guidance to store staff on pricing, product flow, customer service, and policies and procedures.
- Provide feedback to the management team on Store Associate’s & Sales Specialist performance; share feedback with the management team on coaching opportunities for staff.
- Be expert in retail and organizational policies and procedures, such as SGW send/don’t send, good/better/best pricing, customer and donor experience, to model best practices and provide real-time training to staff.
- Assist management in training store employees in “real time” work scenarios. Management will lead training and coaching; the role of the Store Lead is to highlight these opportunities for Management to action.
- Role model exceptional customer service behaviors for the team by playing an active role on the sales floor and donation area.
Customer Service
- Lead by example by cultivating internal relationships and assisting Store Associates & sales specialist in building and maintaining customer relationships.
- Support the Store Management team in driving Goodwill brand loyalty through role modeling behaviors that educate and provide knowledge of the Goodwill Mission.
Operations
- Exhibit and maintain a neat, clean and safe working environment.
- Maintain and replenish the sales floor, cash wrap and donations area.
- Assist in ensuring that donations are treated with respect when received from the donor.
- Protect store assets and inventory by communicating LP and/or safety concerns to the Store Manager’s attention.
- Learn to perform daily opening and closing procedures to provide additional management coverage during store management vacation cycle or other critical coverage situations.
Merchandising/Visual
- Assist Store Management team in maintaining all merchandising directives and execution of effective merchandising strategies.
- Ensure the selling floor is neat, clean, organized at all times.
- Identify and communicate product concerns to the Store Manager in a timely manner.
People
- Report to the Store Manager any observed employee relation issues in a timely and effective manner; Store Manager is responsible to take action on these issues with Human Resources and associated employees.
- Assist the Store Manager to train new employees by role modeling behaviors aligned with Goodwill policy and procedures.
Continually provide feedback to the Store Manager on employee level of proficiency in their role and support with training.

- Must have open availability and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
