Description
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Career Services, the Student Services Advisor supports Helms College students by developing, coordinating, and implementing programs, events, and activities to increase retention rates, course completion rates and graduation rates.
Demonstrate core values of Goodwill Industries by modeling service, ownership, accountability and respect.
Be a mentor to all who come to Helms College for training and education.
Monitor attendance for students daily in conjunction with instructors and program administrators.
Make contact with Helms College students to establish relationship as student's advisor.
Meet with advisees on a regular basis to :
Offer support through the student's education process.
Provide resource information regarding academic policies and procedures.
Evaluate the student's performance.
Where necessary devise a plan to improve academic performance.
Organize and administer records, progression and graduation eligibility of all students within the school's systems; report on trends, student areas of concern and other areas as needed.
Collect, maintain and report student records within FERPA guidelines (i.e., grades, registration data, transcripts, mid-term verification, academic probation) and associated audits.
Participate in professional development activities and serve on committees which support the goals and objectives of the school.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or as the situation dictates.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required (Graduate degree is preferred) in education, counseling, human resources, or related field.
Minimum of 1 year experience in coaching, advising, or counseling. Experience working with non-traditional students preferred.
General administrative skills including developing, implementing, and monitoring company-wide policies and procedures.
Computer literate and proficient in MS Office Suite.
Excellent verbal and written communications and collaboration skills.
Strong people skills with abilities to partner with a dynamic leadership team, other department leadership, and interact with all levels of employees.
