Position Summary
The Graphic Design and Social Media Specialist is responsible for assisting in enhancing our brand and building strong online communities through all print, digital, social and other media platforms for Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan. Creating engaging material for retail locations, mission services, local events, internal communications and more. This role emphasizes social media strategy, content creation, and collaboration with internal teams to enhance brand messaging and help drive sales through effective marketing campaigns. This role will support the development and administration of social media content that creates an interactive relationship between consumers, donors, and the company. Must have the ability to convey ideas in a clear and concise way to the intended audience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as support to Marketing Director and external vendors in the design, editing and content generation for GWSWMi print material, social media accounts and website updates
- Plan, schedule, and manage a content calendar that keeps our brand front and center
- Works with Marketing Director to create marketing strategies that generate website viewership and engagement, gain followers, and create a positive image for the company
- Coordinate the GII and GWSWMi social media marketing calendar to determine strategic promotion, messaging and appropriate marketing vehicles to drive engagement
- Knows what type of content works best on what platform, optimizing content accordingly, as well as understanding the different nuances of each platform
- Operate in a constant state of learning including following trends for digital and social media, and identify new strategies for growth of these marketing vehicles
- Assists with generating and maintaining a library of content appropriate for target audience across all media channels including digital and social channels, print, broadcast, etc.
- Engage with our online community, responding to comments, messages, and interactions Assist with the creation and deployment of email marketing campaigns Monitor engagement, analyze performance, and optimize strategy to grow our audience Develop animations, motion graphics and videos to enhance storytelling
- Works with the Marketing Director on messaging and positioning of all content to achieve a cohesive branding message at all times
- Regularly evaluates the success of marketing efforts through performance metrics and suggests adjustments to strategies as needed Develop and execute a competitive content strategy to boost brand awareness and engagement on social media
- Monitors all social media sites to ensure social interaction maintains a positive tone.

Graphic Design and Social Media Specialist - Education, Skills, Abilities
The candidate must have strong verbal, written and visual communication - strong visual intelligence, as visual content to accompany posts is crucial. The right photo can mean a post is shared a hundred times rather than ten times. Proofreading skills are imperative – this position will be communicating with internal and external customers on a daily basis, with much of this communication in writing. Knowledge of design in order to create visually appealing graphics to coordinate with appropriate posts.
Other Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, marketing or communications preferred
- 2 years of work experience in graphic design, digital/social media environment, plus if non-profit setting
- Strong writing skills and ability to convey a persuasive message with engaging content
- Experience managing social media platforms, content calendars, and analytics
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficient social media communicator – Meta/Facebook (FB advertising platform helpful), Instagram, TikTok, Linkedin
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva
- Bonus points for familiarity with HubSpot, WordPress, or basic HTML/CSS
