Position Summary: The Assistant Controller provides advanced accounting expertise, manages audits and reporting, and ensures compliance with GAAP and grant requirements. This role also supervises accounting staff, assists the Controller with additional needs, and helps drive continuous improvement in financial processes.
Hourly Rate: $42.73 - $46.44 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Controller responsibilities include the following and other duties as assigned:
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Support the Controller with special projects and financial oversight.
- Ensure GAAP compliance and support financial planning and budgeting.
- Prepare financial reports, including bank/bond compliance and internal performance metrics.
- Submit required reports to federal, state, and organizational bodies.
- Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Coordinate financial and grant-related audits.
- Prepare work papers and support tax filings, including Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.
- Maintain internal controls and regulatory compliance.
- Treasury & Investments
- Approve banking transactions, wires, and ACH files.
- Participate in Treasury operations and manage investment account entries.
- Maintain Fixed Assets and capital expenditure tracking.
- Grants & Restricted Funds
- Ensure compliance with Workforce Development grants and support related financials.
- Manage temporarily and permanently restricted funds with accurate documentation and reporting.
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Administer and reconcile purchasing cards.
- Contribute to accounting process improvements and documentation.
- Serve as backup for accounting system functions and supervised roles.
- Insurance & Risk
- Manage insurance renewals, coverage applications, and claims processing.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise and support Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Revenue Accountants; provide training and serve as a backup when needed
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Accounting or related field required; Master's preferred
- CPA preferred
- 2 years experience in audits, financial reporting, and GAAP-based closings
- Experience in multi-location or retail environments preferred
- Familiarity with Great Plains Dynamics is a plus
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Supervise and support Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Revenue Accountants; provide training and serve as a backup when needed

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and average. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra when working on spreadsheets. Ability to create and manage departmental budget.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Other Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Assistant Controller
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Washington State Driver's License required

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear and type.
