JOB SUMMARY:
The Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) program aims to improve the financial stability of Tulsa households by providing high-quality, one-on-one financial education and counseling with a priority focus on low-income residents and underserved populations. The Financial Counselor position will report directly to the Financial Empowerment Center Program Coordinator within Goodwills Financial Resilience Department.
The counselor will serve as part of the broader FEC team to bring a financial stability lens to ensure financial empowerment is central to local resilience and racial equity efforts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client.
- Provide individualized financial counseling sessions (including both initial and follow-up sessions) and achieve client outcomes.
- Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wraparound supports (i.e. benefits, tax preparation) into counseling to achieve greater results.
- Engage in ongoing relationship building with clients to ensure attendance and outcomes.
- Become familiar and proficient in FEC database (FECBOT), including data entry, weekly data reports, and ensuring data quality.
- Successfully complete and pass counselor training and participate in ongoing professional development to earn and maintain required certifications.
- Follow required protocol, including client confidentially, and adhere to the national Financial Empowerment Center model.
- Represent the FEC at various community events as needed to recruit clients and program partners.
- Reviews and is familiar with Company safety policies, programs and procedures. Adheres to all safety rules, regulations and safety codes, and attends safety training sessions and safety meetings.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver's License, with a good driving record.
- Must be eligible for a positive outcome on required State of Oklahoma criminal conviction background check.
- Must maintain appropriate requirements for legal vehicle operation including current automobile insurance, inspection and license plates.
- Must maintain compliance with Goodwill's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy.
- Goodwill considers this a safety sensitive position because it includes tasks or duties that Goodwill reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employee or others.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelors degree (preferred) from an accredited college and two years of relevant work experience with some background in finance, financial education, counseling/coaching, or social service delivery such as community health work, peer education or advocacy.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Bilingual in English and another language a plus, with preference given to Spanish, Zopau, Burmese, Hmong, Dari, or Pashto.
- Particular expertise in one of the following: financial services, social work, financial planning, coaching/mentoring, teaching, or other related fields.
- Be knowledgeable about credit, debt, and money management; savings and investment options; and safe financial products and services.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Available to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to use a client management database.
