GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To participate in and complete the Train-the-Trainer (T3) program as part of the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator (GCTA), with a focus on HVAC/Heat Pump installation.

To gain certification to instruct future GCTA cohorts, supporting the expansion of clean tech training opportunities.

To shadow, co-instruct, and demonstrate readiness to independently deliver GCTA curriculum.

To assist with preparing participants for placement in employment and/or pre-
apprenticeships and apprenticeships

To provide follow-up and retention services to ensure participants placed continue in employment and/or pre-apprenticeships/apprenticeships for at least one (1) year

To represent the Mission Manager on behalf of GIUMSC and the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator program as needed at community events, partner meetings, and other events as assigned

To act in a manner with conduct that reflects Goodwill’s Core Values.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in a minimum of two GCTA training cohorts: first as a shadow, second as a co-instructor.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of course materials and adult learning principles in classroom and lab settings.
3. Collaborate with training partners, instructional staff, and program leads to ensure safe and effective learning environments.
4. Support student engagement through hands-on instruction and real-world scenario application.
5. Provide feedback to training partners and participate in debrief sessions to enhance instructional effectiveness
6. Maintains accurate and complete records for all program participants for the purpose of case files and reporting requirements.
7. Serve as a role model in technical skill, professionalism, and safety adherence.
8. Assist with lab preparation, tool/equipment setup, and student guidance under supervision.
9. Uphold program standards and reinforce career readiness behaviors with trainees.
10. Attend and complete required training, including six course walkthroughs and four administrative skills sessions.
11. Successfully complete three mock teach-back sessions with constructive feedback.
12. Meet evaluation criteria, including passing a written exam (95% minimum), oral exam, and practical evaluations in lecture and lab settings.
13. Exhibit competency in navigating training content, managing classroom dynamics, and ensuring student safety.
14. Provide co-instruction during the second cohort and complete final assessments under supervision.
15. Maintain excellent attendance and full participation throughout the 231–312 hour T3 program.
16. Prepare for certification as a GCTA instructor upon successful evaluation.
17. Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks and follow through on training expectations.
18. Display professionalism and effective communication with team members and students.
19. Adhere to all Train-the-Trainer program processes and schedules.
20. Maintain accurate training notes and complete evaluations and required documentation.
21. Follow safety procedures, instructional standards, and training partner guidance.
22. Support equipment maintenance, classroom organization, and safety protocol implementation.
23. Work independently and as part of a team to uphold GCTA values and student success outcomes.
24. Prepare to teach future cohorts independently upon successful program completion.
25. Maintain confidential program materials and participant evaluations.
26. Participate in additional training opportunities as needed.
27. Travel to training sites as required.
28. Adhere to all policies and procedures.

Reports to: Mission Manager – Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator

Education: Bachelor Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Engineering, Environmental Science); BPI (Building Performance Institute) certification or equivalent in HVAC preferred; EPA 608 Certification (Universal) or Associate degree in a relevant field with additional certifications or training in technical subjects or certification in HVAC-related subject from an accredited vocational or technical school.

Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a teaching or training role, preferably in a technical or vocational setting; Extensive experience in HVAC systems installation, maintenance, and repair, with a strong understanding of construction principles; Experience in managing and maintaining HVAC training facilities or labs is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina Drivers License.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a teaching or training role, preferably in a technical or vocational setting
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ensuring training environments are safe, conducive to learning, and compliant with industry standards
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Availability to commit to the full duration of the Train-the-Trainer program
  • Ability to meet the public and establish positive relationships with a wide variety of people, businesses, employers and agency representatives.
  • Ability to present in a classroom environment.
  • Basic Skills preferred in MS Office (Excel and Word) and Outlook
  • Basic office equipment knowledge including: computer, telephone fax, and copier.
  • Work independently and demonstrate time management skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements: Daily requirements may include climbing, balancing, reaching, talking hearing, seeing, standing, stooping, kneeling, handling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. May be exposed to dust and odors. May be required to do limited work outdoors.

Safety & Security: Responsible for following all safety, security, and classroom equipment inventory procedures as directed by Goodwill policy.

Work Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday – Friday, or whatever hours are required to meet the professional requirements of the job. This position is grant funded, contingent of outside funding, temporary full-time and is scheduled to work approximately 40 hours each week for the duration of the grant.

Work Attire: Casual labor work attire, however casual business/business attire when appropriate. Each associate will present a fashionable, neat, and clean appearance that will be reflective of Goodwill’s positive image in the community.
