Overview

The Senior Director, Development will lead a team and a comprehensive development program to generate philanthropic revenue for the organization. This role provides overall direction for the department, including: strategic oversight, budget development and management, and the stewardship and cultivation of individuals, corporations, foundations, and government partners This position will also serve as a key staff member for any potential capital campaigns.  This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE (Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence) values and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Secures financial resources by directing and supervising a development team and a comprehensive fundraising program that includes: annual, major donor, and planned giving; corporate and foundation grants (in conjunction with Workforce development); special events fundraising (as needed); and prospects for a potential capital campaign.

2. Develops and maintains relationships with internal partners (staff and board) and external partners (individuals, businesses and foundations) that contribute to securing the organization’s financial resources.

3. Actively participates in gift solicitation. Builds strong donor relationships through cultivation and stewardship with individual, business and foundation donors.

4. Develops and maintains infrastructure and systems to support a comprehensive development program and analyzes and prepares reports that illustrate the overall program’s performance and makes improvements.

5. Leads the department by developing and managing a team of high performers, creating and managing budgets, and providing input and oversight in the organization and department’s strategic plan.

6. Oversees, creates and manages volunteer and other engagement opportunities.

7. Stays up to date on fundraising trends and best practices.

8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Chief Community Impact & Sustainability Officer.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:The division consists of the following positions which report to the Chief Community Impact & Sustainability Officer;

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, philanthropic studies, communications, sociology, or equivalent experience.

2. A minimum of 10 years of progressive nonprofit development experience.

3. Proven success generating revenue in all major arenas, including: individual, planned, corporate, foundation giving, and special events.

4. Knowledge and practice of the ethical standards within the fundraising industry.

5. Proven leadership and staff management experience.

6. Comfort and experience engaging with senior leaders, including the President & CEO, and board members.

7. Excellent written, attention to detail, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

8. Skilled in Microsoft Office desktop applications.

9. Valid driver’s license and vehicle.

10. Experience using Raiser’s Edge.

11. Strong problem-solving skills.

1. Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE)2. Experience with a Capital Campaign
