What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bookkeeper/Accountant Real Estate position at Gordon Development?
Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage all aspects of accounting and bookkeeping for our real estate operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate accounting, including property management, leasing, and real estate transactions. You will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring the company’s financial records are accurate and up-to-date.
Key Responsibilities :
General Accounting :
Maintain general ledger, prepare and post journal entries.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
Process payroll and ensure accurate tax filings.
Real Estate Specific Accounting :
Manage accounts payable and receivable for property management operations.
Track and record property-related income and expenses, including rent payments, utilities, and maintenance costs.
Ensure accurate property cost allocations and reporting for multiple properties.
Prepare and submit property management reports for landlords and tenants.
Handle escrow and trust accounts as required by real estate transactions.
Real Estate Transactions :
Track and record property acquisitions, dispositions, and related financial transactions.
Maintain accurate records of capital improvements and depreciation schedules for real estate properties.
Vendor Management :
Oversee vendor invoicing, payments, and communications.
Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices for property-related expenses.
Qualifications :
Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of full charge bookkeeping experience, within the real estate industry.
Experience with property management, real estate transactions, and leasing is a must.
Skills & Knowledge :
Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and real estate accounting practices.
Proficient in accounting software- , QB,and Microsoft Excel., Appfolio
Ability to prepare detailed financial statements and reports.
Experience with accounts payable / receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education :
Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
Additional Requirements :
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a team.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal tax regulations related to real estate preferred.
