Crimson Guard Director
Position Overview:
The GHS Crimson Guard Director is responsible for the direction, choreography, instruction, and performance coordination of the Goshen High School Color Guard program, known as the Crimson Guard. This extracurricular position includes leadership of the guard during the marching band season, with responsibilities beginning in the summer and continuing through the fall.
It is ideal if the director is available to teach two class periods during the first semester, focused on color guard technique and preparation, to be paid as a part-time teaching assignment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership
- Direct all aspects of the Crimson Guard, including training, choreography, and performance preparation.
- Collaborate with the GHS Band Director and marching band staff to support the visual ensemble component of the marching band.
- Create and teach choreography for the competitive marching show and all scheduled performances.
- Instruction
- Teach flag, rifle, sabre, and dance fundamentals to students at all skill levels.
- If available, teach two class periods during the first semester (paid as a part-time teacher) to support in-school color guard instruction and preparation.
- Rehearsals & Performances
- Lead all summer camps, after-school rehearsals, and weekend performances during the marching band season.
- Attend and support all football games, competitions, parades, and community performances as required.
- Administrative Duties
- Assist with equipment inventory, costume coordination, and show logistics.
- Maintain open and timely communication with students, parents, staff, and administration.
- Promote student recruitment and retention, encouraging a positive and inclusive team culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience teaching or directing a color guard program.
- Strong skills in choreography, movement technique, and equipment instruction.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of band staff and student leaders.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Availability for summer rehearsals, after-school practices, and weekend competitions.
- (Preferred) Background in performance, education, dance, or a related field.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
- Extracurricular Stipend: Paid according to the district’s extracurricular pay schedule.
- Part-Time Teaching Option: Two class periods during the first semester, paid separately as a part-time teaching assignment (subject to qualifications and scheduling needs).
- Season Timeline: Summer band through end of the fall marching season, including band camp, rehearsals, and competitions.
SALARY: Per extracurricular schedule (Group #7) and experience
