Executive Team - Director of Operations

As a member of Gospel Rescue Mission’s Leadership Team, the Operations Director is responsible for but not limited to the following:

Oversee Maintenance and Facilities Team

The team is responsible for building and vehicle operability and protection (including walls, ceilings, and floors, heating and cooling systems, water and sewage facilities, furniture, fixtures and equipment, electricity, etc.). Ensure the delivery of services that support the facilitation of:

  • Protective activities
  • Information distribution
  • Supplies/Inventory management
  • Effective room utilization
  • Prepare cost estimates for moves and equipment
  • Work with the CFO on preparing operating budgets
  • Work with the Purchasing Agent to negotiate bids and contracts for third-party vendors
  • Work with management on existing and new construction projects
  • Use best business practices to manage and reduce operation costs while ensuring the efficiency of all facility systems
  • Work with the Purchasing Agent to manage GRM facilities vendor contracts
  • Work with GRM partners to ensure their offices are operational
  • Coordinate renovations and special projects
  • Oversee and purchase supplies for maintenance
  • Collaborate with the COO on purchases of equipment and supplies
  • Help develop any needed administrative policies and protocols
  • Collaborate with the COO and CFO on vendor & service contracts, agreements, and legal documents
  • Oversee the purchase, maintenance, and safety of all GRM vehicles

Oversee the Culinary Team

The team prepares and delivers nutritious, high-quality food to guests, staff, volunteers, visitors, partner organizations, and events with radical hospitality and a superior dining experience allowing for fellowship. Ensure adherence to best practices within the operations of the kitchen.

Oversee the Safety and Security Team

The Safety & Security team ensure the safety and security of people and assets on the GRM campuses. They identify security trends, develop security plans, and ensure crisis preparedness.

  • Investigate incidences
  • Provide training on safety and security policies and procedures
  • Oversee the safety of facilities and equipment
  • Respond to emergencies or other urgent issues
  • Work with IT and Safety and Security departments to ensure the security of the building through various security measures
    • Surveillance cameras
    • Locked doors
    • Security staff
  • Work with the Safety & Security team to coordinate site safety programs

  • Provide leadership and supervisory support to the Operations Department and all GRM teams.
  • Manage, address, and coach team situations and responsibilities with the COO and the Human Resources Manager.
  • Uphold policy (including vision, mission, and values), applying sound ethical judgment regarding behavior, conduct, and GRM practices; and escalate management and report issues with transparency and accountability.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and the COO, participate in interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, recognizing, disciplining, and terminating direct reports as necessary.
  • Assist the COO and Executive Team in resolving all complaints from guests, staff, volunteers, and partner/outside agencies or entities.
  • Attend professional training and networking opportunities as directed.
  • Manage employees’ web-based time and attendance records.
  • Support and attend GRM team meetings.
  • Provide weekly reports as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Strategic Plan Implementation

  • Assist managers with establishing and accomplishing goals and objectives for each service area.
  • Frequently evaluate the service delivery effectiveness of each service area.
  • Coordinate ongoing meetings with managers to review overall service delivery.
  • In a moderate to fast pace, achieves weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual success goals (and others) as approved by GRM benchmarks and strategic plan.

  • A degree in, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field, in addition to advanced specialized certification.
  • 7 years of equivalent experience may count in place of a degree.
  • 7 years of prior operational experience in the function of operations management, information technology, maintenance, safety and security, and food service.
  • 7 years of prior operational experience in pastoral leadership, human services, adult vocational services, or social services
  • Maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License and must have a clean driving record
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
  • Must be an evangelical Christian, living a life dedicated to Christ, and be an instrument of God’s love, grace, hope, and forgiveness to all

Essential Experience, Skills, and Competencies include but are not limited to 10 years of experience in leading and supporting a team. Ability to develop and execute team initiatives independently as well as collaboratively. Outstanding interpersonal relational skills. Proficient in written communication, reading comprehension, and comprehensive listening skills. Proficient in MS Office and business software, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies; familiarity/expertise. Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence - ability to motivate staff while optimizing performance. Forward-thinking with an interest in making a positive impact. Strong focus on continuous process improvement and quality.


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to travel
  • It requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • This individual may encounter individuals who are ill and contagious and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone

Mental Demands:

  • The population we serve is typically in crisis. This can cause emotional stress and compassion fatigue. GRM highly promotes employee self-care
