Description
Governors State University is looking to hire a Payroll Specialist I responsible for performing a variety of duties required to produce an accurate and timely university payroll. The job is also responsible for assisting employees and students with their various payroll needs and questions.
Essential Responsibilities
Payroll Responsibilities
40% Payroll Preparation
- Audit contracts for extra help, graduate assistants, and student workers for accuracy.
- On a semi-monthly basis, audit timesheets for extra help, graduate assistants, and student workers in preparation for accurate payment.
- Act as payroll liaison to resolve timesheet discrepancies in a timely manner to meet payroll processing deadlines.
- Audit faculty semi-monthly timesheets for leave usage.
- Employee W4 entry.
- Banking ACH reject resolution.
15% Payroll Processing
o Audit portion of payroll
o Work with the Human Resources Department to obtain necessary documentation.
o Work with the Human Resources Department to clear any discrepancies.
15% Customer Service
o Handle routine inquiries, requests, or problems.
o Assist with payroll form questions.
o Assist with paycheck / advice questions or issues.
o Handle routine inquiries, requests, or problems.
o Assist with payroll form questions.

5% Electronic Time Keeping Implementation
Accounting Responsibilities
20% Accounting Assistant duties as assigned :
o Review vouchers, requisitions, purchase orders, and other transaction documents for completeness, accuracy, conformity to policies, procedures, and / or contractual agreements.
o Document departmental procedures
o Assist departmental projects
Miscellaneous Responsibilities
5% Miscellaneous duties as assigned :
Hourly Range : $16.10 - $18.52
This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).

Required and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year from the categories below :
A. College coursework in accounting, business administration, finance, economics, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent :
B. Work experience performing basic payroll duties.
Preferred Requirements :
Prior customer service experience
