GENERAL PURPOSE:
Responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all organizational financial matters meet established goals by following Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performing Essential Functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization.
1. Oversees function of Business Office, Payables, Payroll and Receivables; establishes accounting control procedures and systems.
2. Responsible for hiring, supervising, training, and disciplining appropriate staff.
3. Prepares annual operating budget.
4. Tracks investment performance against budget and current market conditions, makes recommendations as appropriate.
5. Presents monthly financial reports to the Board.
6. Prepares reports for submission to regulatory and other agencies.
7. Assumes the lead role in annual external audits.
8. Performs variance analysis and meets with responsible managers to communicate results.
9. Verifies, allocates and posts details of business transactions into the general ledger from source documents and computer files.
10. Reconciles all balance sheet accounts monthly.
11. Compiles reports to show statistics such as cash receipts, expenditures, and month-end and year-end financial position.
12. Calculates key performance indicators such as unit cost and prepares trend analysis.
13. Maintains and reconciles resident trust funds.
14. Maintains and reconciles facility petty cash.
15. Directs determination of depreciation schedules to apply to capital assets.
16. Prepares reports which summarize and forecast activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
17. Promulgate a succession plan for the Business Office through mentorship to a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation. Mentorship should include but is not limited to, allowing educational leave to obtain the requisite academic credentials for the Director position, providing regular reviews of work performance, mentor/mentee attendance to business meetings, access to Business Office documents, progression of work responsibilities and assignments and other manners to prepare mentee for transition into Director role.
18. Makes presentations as requested by TONCA Board.
19. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected financial position of TONCA for other managers.
20. Monitors loans and accounts payable and receivables to ensure that payments are up to date and provide monthly accounts receivable aging reports to TONCA Board.
21. Receive direction from the Nursing Home Administrator on overall QAPI objectives for the organization.
22. Be knowledgeable in data collection, data analysis methodology, and performance improvement methods needed to support and lead performance improvement projects.
23. Identify opportunities for improvement through analysis of data, observation of operations, and consultation with leadership and staff.
24. Collaborate with the quality committee and senior leaders to prioritize and develop QAPI efforts.
25. Lead performance improvement projects and provide education and coaching to build needed skills in others to lead PIPs.
26. Participate in multidisciplinary QAPI activities.
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in accounting from a four-year college or university
- One to two years related experience (Ideally in the Nursing Home/ Hospital Setting)
