GRACE- Holy Family Catholic School is looking for a full-time School Counselor. The School Counselor works within the Catholic mission of GRACE to promote the academic, personal/social, and spiritual growth of all students through a counseling program that is preventative in nature and developmentally designed. The School Counselor provides services to students through classroom instruction, individual meetings, and in group settings.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Development, delivery, and management of a comprehensive school counseling program
- Understands, examines, and develops preventative school counseling programs based off of academic standards
- Listening skills
- Empathetic
- Understanding of child development and psychology
- Accountability through yearly program audit, and monitoring of student academic performance and progress and assist with appropriate interventions
- Assisting students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, personal/social skills, goals, and plans in alignment with the social and moral teachings of the Catholic Church
- Collaborating with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with academic, personal, and social/emotional skills and strategies.
- Help orient new students to the school
- Assist middle school students with developing career goals/plans
- Crisis counseling
- Conflict resolution
- Community resource referrals
- Academic counseling for at-risk students
- Providing individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
Professional Development:
- Participates in diocesan educational, religious, and administrative in-services and other applicable conferences
- Participates in academic courses, workshops, and professional organizations
- Stays current in educational and administrative best practices
- Participates in renewing Virtus principles monthly through online bulletins, and other applicable trainings
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Wisconsin Certification #966/#54
- Hold or be eligible for a Master’s Degree in Guidance or Counseling
- Masters Degree in Guidance or Counseling
- Has had or will obtain training in Theology of the Body
- Preferred candidate will have previous experience in school counseling
- Demonstrate a strong ability to work effectively and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to collaborate with parents, staff, and community agencies while working in a faith-focused environment
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, and frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk. The employee will use the hands feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 20 pounds. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
