ABOUT THE CENTER
Grace Covenant Child Development Center (GCCDC) is a non-profit childcare center located in the heart of the Fan District of Richmond, Virginia, that is affiliated with and a mission of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. GCCDC and the church work closely to create a community of support and resources for parents. As a non-profit organization, 100% of tuition goes toward staffing, facilities, programs, and supplies. GCCDC is also proud to be able to offer need-based scholarships to families in our community. The mission of GCCDC is to provide a nurturing, enriching environment based on Christian values. GCCDC is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays and provides care for approximately 100 children, ranging in age from infants to pre-kindergarten students.
POSITION SUMMARY
Grace Covenant Child Development Center is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated Assistant Director to support the Executive Director in the day-to-day operations of our vibrant and nurturing early childhood program. The Assistant Director plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality care and education, supporting staff, and fostering strong relationships with families and the community.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of center policies, procedures, and educational programs.
- Supervise and mentor teaching staff, promoting best practices in early childhood education and ensuring consistent implementation of the curriculum.
- Oversee lesson planning and classroom activities to maintain compliance with state licensing regulations and uphold high standards of care.
- Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing professional development of staff.
- Foster positive, professional communication with families regarding their child’s development, program updates, and any concerns.
- Manage staff schedules, coordinate daily staffing needs, and oversee payroll processing.
- Monitor supply inventory and coordinate facility maintenance to ensure a safe and well-equipped environment.
- Serve as acting Director in the absence of the Executive Director.
- Support enrollment processes, outreach efforts, and community engagement initiatives.
- Step into classroom roles as needed to ensure coverage and maintain quality of care.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to cultivate a safe, inclusive, engaging, and joyful atmosphere for children, staff, families, and all members of the GCCDC community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct responsibilities for all center staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in early childhood program administration and staff supervision.
- Strong knowledge of early childhood best practices, licensing regulations, and curriculum implementation.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for supporting young children, their families, and early childhood educators in a collaborative, community-centered environment.
