GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under limited supervision, supervises the educational services provided to clients in an assigned Grafton program. Establishes the overall educational curriculum for the assigned program and supervises academic staff and support staff who plan and/or implement the daily curriculum and lesson plans. Program curriculum is based upon the functioning level of the clients and their individual needs. Positions evaluate educational services to ensure that educational subjects are explored fully, in light of client behavior management issues and their individual capabilities. Some positions also supervise career and technical education services provided within the day program and/or perform case management work for assigned clients. Reports to the Principal.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises educational services provided in an assigned program. Establishes and maintains the educational curriculums. Establishes standards and supervises the use of student educational assessments to include training and supporting teachers in assessments and scoring. Monitors the quality of the classroom environment and the delivery of educational services.
  • Supervises staff that plan, develop and implement the daily lesson plans and classroom activities. Oversees the development of educational goals and objectives for student IEP's. Ensures education lessons and activities meet the needs of the students and support their IEP goals. Reviews the progress reports, including goal graphing charts, prepared by educational staff, which documents student progress toward educational goals and objectives. Coordinates education related modifications to the student's IEP.
  • May supervise career and technical education staff engaged in developing and implementing activities, which teach and reinforce job-related tasks and skills. May provide support in terms of creation of task analyses for implementation within career and technical education.
  • Monitors the education and career and technical education budget; approves related expenditures and purchases.
  • Assists with completion of all requirements related to the Virginia State Assessment Program (BSAP) and DC Assessment Program (DC CAS Alt.)
  • Provides oversight of data that is entered into the ECR.
  • May assist teachers with coordinating the development of the IEP; ensuring services meet IEP goals and objectives; and preparing quarterly reports on progress for IEP.
  • Implements crisis intervention strategies as needed. Ensures that all incidents are documented and reported properly
  • Responds to inquiries from agencies, parents and/or guardians regarding educational programs.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties associated with supervising staff to include hiring, assigning work, developing performance plans, and providing technical guidance and direction, evaluating work and ensuring the provision of training.
  • Ensures adequate staffing needs and requests substitutes to cover staff vacancies as determined by the regional Executive Director.
  • Participates in on-call rotation as determined by the regional Executive Director.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in committees and provides orientation training for new staff and ongoing training to support staff through the job ladder system.
  • Maintains the school in the absence of the Principal.
  • May assume responsibility for a classroom in the event of a teacher vacancy.
  • Assists with making student classroom placement decisions in the school based on educational need.
  • Assists with writing IEP goals for the classes without certified teachers as determined by the Principal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a Master’s degree in Education/Special Education. Requires a Post Graduate Professional Virginia Teaching License with Endorsements in one or more special education areas which they will serve. Three years teaching experience in special education and evidence of leadership experience.

OR

Bachelor’s degree and a Virginia Collegiate Professional Teaching License with endorsements in one or more special needs areas, which they will serve. Five years teaching experience in education or special needs and/or experience working in some other direct capacity with individuals with special needs. Evidence of leadership experiences.

Enrollment in and completion of Masters Degree in Education/Special Education or School Administration. An endorsement in one or more appropriate areas of special education served by the school they will work in. An agreed upon completion date for these requirements.

  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
