Job Title: Manufacturing Supervisor

Reports To: Operations Manager

Department: GHM/Marine Products

Level of Work: Level II


SECOND SHIFT HOURS of OPERATION: Mon - Thur (4pm - 2:30am)


Position Summary: the ideal candidate for a manufacturing supervisor role over welders possesses a blend of technical welding knowledge, leadership abilities, and managerial skills. This combination enables them to effectively guide their team, maintain quality standards, and drive production success.


Key Results Areas:


Manage, lead, engage, hold accountable and develop department employees to ensure job satisfaction and growth.

  1. Practice positive employee engagement methodologies and serve as a key communicator, trainer, motivator, and coach for the department.
  2. Develop and manage direct reports including quarterly one-on-one meetings to coach, correct and recognize behaviors.
  3. Conduct quarterly/annual performance reviews with staff.
  4. Directly oversee all performance issues and progressive discipline practices.
  5. Manage personal performance by setting and communicating clear goals and expectations.
  6. Communicate the company’s goals and objectives to the staff and identify key metrics to ensure that their team is driving to the company’s goals and objectives.
  7. Cultivate and foster the company’s core values.
  8. Establish a strengths-based culture for assessing, applying, and development of employees.
  9. Reward or recognize employees as appropriate based on performance.

Monitor and ensure their department operates effectively and meets the organizations goals and objectives..

  1. Drive budget performance, profitability and cost reduction efforts to ensure the department stays on track to meet the financial plan year over year.
  2. Proactively coordinate team and individual work assignments to achieve daily goals and objectives to ensure schedule adherence and to optimize the overall efficiency and utilization of the shop.
  3. Ensure that individual work outcomes are complete and accurate and meet standards set by Graham.
  4. Develop and standardize processes that will enable employees to perform processes consistently.
  5. Encourage employees to identify problems or improvement ideas for department processes.
  6. Provide technical oversight and direction as required, to assist in troubleshooting or root cause analysis on difficult problems.
  7. Manage cycle time and capacity throughout the department to ensure on time delivery.
  8. Monitor Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) to ensure that the Manufacturing Department is meeting its metrics and deliverables to ensure company strategy is met.
  9. Identify opportunities and improve processes to drive customer deliverables and to obtain required results.
  10. Monitor the production preparation process to ensure accuracy and completion.
  11. Monitor production results to ensure quality parts are moved to assembly.
  12. Proactively identify and overcome manufacturing constraints with equipment, processes, and staffing by developing alternative options, adjusting plans accordingly, and realigning.
  13. Monitor reactive maintenance to determine root cause and corrective actions and incorporate the actions into the maintenance plans.

Collaborate with all departments to ensure that information and data transfers effectively to meet customer needs and organizational objectives.

  1. Obtain teams daily work status and issues to report to appropriate team.
  2. Communicate manufacturing priorities from meetings to team to ensure daily plan is executed.
  3. Collaborate with engineering to ensure drawings, work instructions and bill of material (BOM) documents needed for production are complete and accurate.
  4. Collaborate with Quality to resolve product or process nonconformance's.
  5. Collaborate and partner with Human Resources to assess individual compensation and ensure that all employees are paid according to their performance.

Ensure safety of the employees and quality of the products throughout all processes.

  1. Ensure that manufacturing personnel can locate Quality Management System procedure, have read and understand relevant procedure and are aware of all procedure changes when they occur.
  2. Ensure that all manufacturing procedures are followed to drive quality outcomes and ensure quality controls.
  3. Provide resources to perform root cause analysis for corrective and preventive actions identified in the department.
  4. Manage compliance to all safety procedure and ensure proper protective equipment usage to ensure personnel safety.
  5. Drive safety and accident prevention into the culture.
  6. Perform injury reviews and analysis.

Continually improve procedures, processes and methods to effectively meet customer needs and organizational objectives.

  1. Develop and manage the continual improvement plan/roadmap for the department to drive increased performance year over year.
  2. Provide improvement tools, techniques and training needed to implement and sustain continual improvement efforts.
  3. Drive a continual improvement culture in the department and drive 5S and Safety initiatives.


Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training

  • GED along with a technical background in Welding/Fabrication

Experience:

  • Five years of experience in a Welding Fabrication shop environment or similar
  • Three years of supervisor responsibilities
  • Must have experience with welding of various metals.
  • Requires knowledge of conventional machining processes and grinding.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and prints

Other:

  • Must be willing to work overtime as required

Desired Job Qualification:

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. Required to speak and communicate clearly with others. Will need to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Corrected vision to 20/20 or adequate and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, present information to others and work under pressure.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise. Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes. Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts with vibration.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to work in the U.S without sponsorship. Ability to obtain US government security clearance required.

Salary : $70,000 - $95,000
