Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Accounting is a member of The Grand America Hotels and Resorts accounting team that oversees the accounting and financial operations for six hotels.  The Assistant Director of Accounting will focus on the financial management and accounting operations for two hotel properties while supporting the Director of Accounting in overseeing the financial activities of all hotel properties. The role emphasizes accurate and timely financial reporting, process improvement, and collaborative team building in the accounting department as well as cross-functionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accounting operations and all financial transactions, for assigned hotels, including managing the month-end and year-end close process.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and USALI industry standards.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate variances to identify trends and provide insights and recommendations to improve financial performance across properties.
  • Assist the Director of Accounting in consolidating and analyzing financial data across six properties.
  • Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process, providing projections and analysis to aid in decision-making.
  • Act as a liaison between property-level teams and the Director of Accounting.
  • Develop, implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and address audit findings.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and assist in implementing best practices to enhance efficiency.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize financial systems and workflows.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices and recommend process enhancements.
  • Work closely with hotel management, operations, and revenue management teams to align financial goals with operational objectives.
  • Support special projects and initiatives as directed by the Director of Accounting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with experience in public accounting preferred.
  • Hospitality industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, USALI, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and excellence.
  • Leadership mindset with a focus on team collaboration and mentorship.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
