STATUS AND HOURS: Full-time (based on a 40 hours per week), benefit eligible. This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. In this role with Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, there might be a variation of hours and days to support the agency and County’s needs. Target start date is TBD.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Office Support Assistant performs a wide variety of clerical duties in support of the sheriff’s department. The position requires the use of independent judgment, broad knowledge, and understanding of policies, modern office and clerical processes, and technical data and information systems. Must be able to interpret and explain county and department policies and procedures. Serves as the central records-keeping information center for the sheriff’s department; provides information to other agencies and the public in accordance with open records laws and confidentiality requirements. Provides input for planning and implementation of new procedures and policies relating to the sheriff’s records function.
To be successful:
- Thorough knowledge of and proficiency with personal computers and commonly used Microsoft Office software products to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and specialty programs and the internet.
- Ability to enter data into computer, complete a variety of forms, etc.
- General knowledge of County policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to speak with poise, voice control and confidence and to articulate information to others.
- Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using automated office equipment.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with persons acting under stress.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, co-workers and general public.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Two years of general clerical experience. Law enforcement office support experience preferred.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid National Crime Information Center Certification, Notary Public Commission and a valid driver’s license.
